Camp Details and Rules

Write for the Summer 2018 schedule will be posted soon. 

 

Early registration is open the whole month of December and is priced at $100.00. 

 

Regular registration is available from January 1 to May 31. No late registrations will be accepted. Registration is on a first come, first served, basis. Regular registration fee is $150.00.

 

All registration payments are non-refundable 30 days before camp. 

Fees include the cost of location, presenters' honorariums, basic snack items available during the morning and afternoon break, and lunch for every day of the camp, water and juice provided throughout each day, anthology printing and publishing costs, Summerland Art Centre membership fees, and camp supplies (such as extra paper and pencils for participants). All kids are expected to bring their own pencils, pens, papers, and other work utensils. 

 

We only accept students aged 8-18 at the time of the camp week. We do our best to respect different dietary needs and are happy to answer any questions or address any concerns.

 

The safety of all camp participants, volunteers, presenters, and people we may share the building with at the time of camp is our number one priority. We have a zero tolerance policy for any illicit drugs, alcohol consumption, vandalism, smoking, bullying or other inappropriate disturbances during the camp week. If this policy is disregarded, the violating student(s) will be dismissed immediately. For those submitting work to the anthology, parents also give Write for the Summer consent for the first Canadian Rights to publish the student’s entry in the Write for the Summer: Volume I anthology. By signing the registration form, parents consent to photos being taken of the children: these photos are only allowed to be posted on the Write for the Summer website and additional promotional items only related to Write for the Summer. 

There is a minimum number of registrants needed to run Write for the Summer successfully: 15. If this registration number is not met, the camp may be cancelled, at which time all registered will receive full refunds.  

Anthology Submission Rules

 

Submissions for Write for the Summer: Volume II are only open to paid/registered students.

 

Short stories and poems are limited to a maximum of 5 pages, excluding the cover letter. Type must be 12-point Times New Roman and double-spaced with one-inch margins. Failure to follow these rules may result in the entry being disqualified. Include a cover letter with your name, age, city.

Art work may also be submitted - this includes original images drawn, painted, or digitally created. Each participant may submit a maximum of 3 pieces each. A cover letter, matching the requirements for written submissions, must also be included. Please submit artwork as a jpeg, if submitting online. 

 

All submissions must be received BY June 1. 

 

One complimentary copy of the anthology is included in the registration fee.

 

Controversial content will be subject to the scrutiny and final judgement of the editors. If this is the case, editors will contact young writers (parents must be cc’d) to discuss potential solutions or alternatives for submission. Content proved to be too inappropriate by the editing team will be rejected.
